Instructions for Authors

Following the call for papers, authors are invited to submit individual contributions to any of the congress topics.
Individual contributions consist in:

  1. a one-page abstract until February 28, 2009,
  2. a short paper for the conference proceedings until June 30, 2009,
  3. your presentation at the conference venue from September 28-30, 2009.

Step 2. and 3. are conditional to receiving a notification of acceptance until March 15, 2009.

Instructions for the abstract

Only a one-page abstract in .pdf format can be accepted. It can be uploaded in the private author′s area of each registered participant, see registration. Please proceed as follows:

  1. Download and unzip the LaTeX template. The path xfem2009/ is generated.
  2. Read the instructions given in xfem2009/Readme.txt and generate your contribution in .pdf format using LaTeX.
  3. Upload your contribution until February 28, 2009 in your private author′s area (therefore, you have to register first).

Note: Only in exceptions, we can accept your abstract in ASCII format with .txt ending which will then be converted to LaTeX by the scientific organizing committee of the conference. Please fill out the corresponding fields in this .txt template.

Instructions for the short paper

The short paper may contain up to 4 pages in .pdf format generated by LaTeX or Microsoft Word using the templates to be downloaded below. Accepted short papers, to be uploaded in the private author′s area until June 30, 2009 are included in the congress proceedings.

Please proceed as follows for generating your contribution with LaTeX:

  1. Download and unzip the LaTeX template. The path template-latex-xfem2009/ is generated.
  2. Read the instructions given in template-latex-xfem2009/xfem2009.pdf which has been generated by the extracted latex sources.
  3. Write your contribution and generate a file in .pdf format.
  4. Upload the .pdf file until June 30, 2009 in your private author′s area.

Please proceed as follows for generating your contribution with Microsoft Word:

  1. Download and unzip the Microsoft Word template. The file template-word-xfem2009.doc is extracted.
  2. Write your contribution with the instructions provided in this .doc file.
  3. Generate/export a file in .pdf format.
  4. Upload the .pdf file until June 30, 2009 in your private author′s area.

The authors of the 10 best short papers are eligible for submitting a research article for a special issue on the XFEM in the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering. The choice of the best papers will be made by the advisory board of the conference.

Instructions for the presentation

All sessions have one LCD projector, one desktop PC, one laser pointer and one projection screen. Presentation files may be created in .pdf format (recommended) or Microsoft Power Point. You may connect your own laptop to the LCD projector but it is your responsibility that everything works as expected.
